Italian artist Cristina Celestini works with coloured pencils to create figurative, large scale works on paper. Multilayered her drawings have a ghostly, transformational and timeless quality. Born in Rome Cristina draws on her heritage to retell ancient myths and stories. Taking inspiration from churches and the Sistine Chapel she has taken as her subject matter classical figures seen through a modern and female eye. Largely self-taught Celestini completed a postgraduate course with the Royal Drawing School in 2023 and Over the last few years she has had work selected for major national competition including the Ruth Borchard Self Portrait prize, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters “drawing the Human” open call, the Royal West of England Summer exhibition and the ING discerning Eye prize. Featured on Sky Portrait Artist of the Year, Cristina has had work acquired by the New Art Gallery in Walsall for their permanent collection and has her work placed in private collections around the world.
