I cast my wandering eye over some discarded net that surrounds me in my studio. My imagination places an endangered Wild Horse - Przewalsky's Horse, caught in the net and brought to the table for debate; does this depict a restorative medical proceedure, an autopsy, a sacrifice to the ‘Gods of the Steppes’ or clarion call for a species on the brink of extinction. This is the first of a series of drawn species both human and non human. As I draw the net, I use information that I see in front of me, moulding it from reference and imagination into drawing a trapped horse. Using drawn lines of net has been a drawing practice for me for a while. An element of plastic pollution, drawn to describe a narrative. These ecological themes are a continued focus of my practice, which frequently explores environmental pollution, species disappearance, and ecosystem collapse.
