Coloured pencil and Pastel
43.5 x 43.5 cm
2025

As long as I remember I have always been creative. As a child I would pick up discarded nuts and bolts from the street and turn them into little figures. I would do Origami and woodwork with my dad. But my greatest love has always been drawing. Even then, I would try to create drawings that portrayed my subject as realistic as possible. As I grew up, life took me in other directions. I studied graphic and theatre design and became a tailor. It would take a severe burnout at 38 to get me back to drawing. In the following years I rediscovered coloured pencil and began drawing flowers, to put some colour and joy back into my life. I have always found strong emotive qualities in inanimate objects and hope to convey some of these emotions through my work. Composition and light play a big role in my drawings. It is there that my previous studies come to show. My drawings are made with coloured pencils and pastels. I love how they enable me to draw fine details and by applying them in thin, translucent layers, they become luminous and vibrant. This way I am finally coming close to achieving what I dreamt of as a little girl.
