Graphite on paper

My work uses drawing to explore the different ways in which worn clothing in museum collections can reveal information, such as how clothing was made, worn, altered, and cared for. It has a particular focus on signs of wear, such as stains, mends and tears and how these marks left by the bodies that wore the clothes might be drawn as a way to elicit narratives of the past. I consider worn clothes to be an extension of the body and a 'shed skin' when removed. Therefore, I use historical anatomical and pathological illustrations of the body, such as those which focus on the skin, to inform my practice and influence the drawings of clothes that I make. The work in this exhibition examines a baby dress located in the Museum of English Rural Life, Reading, Uk.
