Central to Tamsin Nagel's work is a disquieting beauty. She is drawn to stories, images, objects and concepts that look beautiful and picturesque from afar, but on second glance aren’t quite what they seem. Themes of life, death, and nature are consistent in her work, and are presented in a delicate and contemporary way, laced with a subtle wry humour. Her current body of work explores cheap, throw-away, supermarket flowers in various states of decay. Taking inspiration from historical botanical drawings and the Bosschaert Dynasty, the drawings are presented as modern still-lifes.
